3D NOTIONS & LIGHTS

Rachel began working with 3D Rendering and Printing of her original designs in the summer of 2015. With this newfound knowledge and research under her belt, she began to apply this unique skill set to her apparel designs, which includes not only jewelry, but notions and other accessories as well. With the help of physics professor Dr. Kaye, Rachel was also able to learn how to apply LED lights to clothing and accessories, which are seen in the line TECHNOPHILE. These images offer a peek into the world of technology and fashion that Rachel hopes to continue pursuing in the future professionally, and creatively in her spare time.

3D Printed Pyramids

Printed on a Makerbot 2 using the clear filament, two prototypes of the pyramids are shown here with varying levels of thickness/opacity

LED Skirt

The skirt is shown here with the pyramids individually hand-sewn on, prior to the final step, adding in the LED ligths

LED Skirt Complete!

Here the skirt is finally complete, with both blue and white LED lights shown. The colors were chosen as the line was F/W, and the battery packs were hidden in the skirt’s pockets

3D Triangles

3D printed triangles are shown here that were printed with flexible filament on the same Makerbot 2, these having the ability to bend while the other filament snaps. This picture shows the mock up of how they will be displayed

3D Triangles: Silver

After the triangles were painted silver and re-assembled, they were carefully hand sewn onto the delicate knit fabric of the mock neck sweater from Conversion. These added virtually no weight to the overall garment

Spiked Shoulder Epoulets

These shoulder epoulets were not originally silver: they came out the same color as the pyramids from the previous images and of the same filament, spray-painted, then assembled. These served to add an edgy, non-functional accessory to the outfit, similar to the previous 3D pieces
